Sweet Braided Bread

This is the best, softest braided bread ever! My mom's recipe for "Butterzopf" - buttery braided bread.

Utensilien

  • Bowl
  • Kitchen towel
  • Baking paper
  • Baking tray

Zutaten
  

  • 1/2 pckg. dried yeast
  • 270 ml milk lukewarm
  • 60 g sugar
  • 500 g flour
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 lemon zest
  • 50 ml melted butter
  • 30 g almond slices

Zubereitung
 

  • Dissolve yeast in 250 ml milk with sugar. Add flour and combine. Add salt, 1 egg, lemon zest and melted butter and knead for approx. 5 minutes.
  • Cover the dough with a moist kitchen towel and let it rest for 3 hours.
  • Divide into 3 pieces and shape into a braid. Mix egg and the rest of the milk and brush the braided bread with it. Put almond slices on top and let the braid rest for 30 more minutes.
  • Preheat the oven to 180 °C. Bake for 20 minutes. Serve with powdered sugar on top if you like.

Tipps

Don't bake the braided bread for too long, so it stays soft and fluffy!
