Dissolve yeast in 250 ml milk with sugar. Add flour and combine. Add salt, 1 egg, lemon zest and melted butter and knead for approx. 5 minutes.
Cover the dough with a moist kitchen towel and let it rest for 3 hours.
Divide into 3 pieces and shape into a braid. Mix egg and the rest of the milk and brush the braided bread with it. Put almond slices on top and let the braid rest for 30 more minutes.
Preheat the oven to 180 °C. Bake for 20 minutes. Serve with powdered sugar on top if you like.
Tipps
Don't bake the braided bread for too long, so it stays soft and fluffy!
