Sweet Buchteln with Vanilla Sauce

Fluffy sweet baked bread with apricot jam and vanilla sauce – so good! This is a Southtyrolean winter classic.

Zutaten
  

For the dough:

  • 1 package dry yeast
  • 50 g sugar
  • 1 package vanilla sugar
  • 100 ml milk
  • 2 eggs
  • 300 g flour
  • 40 g butter
  • 1 tbsp rum optional
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 100 g apricot jam

For the vanilla sauce:

  • 1 package vanilla pudding mix
  • 600 ml milk
  • 2 tbsp sugar

Zubereitung
 

  • Combine yeast, sugar, vanilla sugar and milk. Add eggs and flour and knead for approx. 1 minute.
  • Melt butter and add to the dough, together with rum and salt. Knead to a smooth dough. Cover with cling foil or a kitchen towel and let the dough rest for approx. 30 minutes in a warm place.
  • Roll out the dough until 1 cm thick. Cut into rectangles (approx. 5 x 5 cm) and put 1/2-1 tsp jam in each rectangle. Wrap them up and put the buchteln in an oven-proof dish with the wrapped part down.
  • Preheat the oven to 180 °C and put another oven-proof dish in the oven with water in it. Bake for 20-25 minutes.
  • Meanwhile, make the vanilla sauce. Add vanilla pudding mix to the milk together with the sugar. Bring to the boil and boil for 2-3 minutes until it thickens.
  • Serve the buchteln with powdered sugar on top and vanilla sauce on the side.

Tipps

If you want, you can of course make homemade vanilla sauce without using vanilla pudding mix, but by using egg yolks, starch and milk together with fresh vanilla pod.
